The Present Vimanmek Reawakening eighty-one years after its foundation was laid by King Rama V, the history of Vimanmek unexpectedly reached its full cycle.Touched once more by royal interest, it was. to reawaken, pulsate with life and tell the story of its gracious past. This turn of events came about in 1982, the year of Bangkok's bicentenary, when Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the present Reign rediscovered the beauty and soundness of this forgotten building. Inside it, Her Majesty found a lavish store of historical and artistic treasures that were once the possessions of King Rama V and members of his family. With the permission of His Majesty the King, Her Majesty proceeded with the task of bringing the long-deserted royal residence out of the clouds of oblivion and unveiling its nostalgic beauty to the eyes of the world. The building was repaired, repainted and installed with new wiring system. By Her Majesty's command, the restoration was carried out with the greatest care to preserve it as it was during the period of King Rama V's residence. On 5th October, 1982. As for King Rama V's octagonal apartment on the top floor, memories of his presence are recalled by the use of the apartment's original furniture and the display of a selection of the King's personal belongings. It is composed of four rooms; his private study, bed chamber, dressing room and bathroom, each furnished with great fidelity and devotion to historical authenticity.
